Peter Pan is cute. jolly. daredevil. free. innocent. all the qualities that we will also experience if we want to stop thinking about the past, worrying about the future, and just live in the present. But, Peter Pan is more than just living in the present, he only wants to live there, denying that there is future. Because future means growing up. Growing up means more responsibilities towards ourselves and the world. And Peter Pan just wants to have all the fun in the world. Because no matter how brave he thinks he is in Never Land, he’s too scared to step out of his little comfort zone to taste the next menus offered by life.
That’s why we all have been in this place where we are faced with some depressing problems, be it in the office, in a relationship with parents, friends, girlfriends or boyfriends, and minds get stuck and at that very dead end moment, we would wish that we’d never grown up. Stay as children. Because that time, life was so simple. Minds didn’t think about any other needs than to eat, sleep, be loved by our parents, play games, watch TVs, hold our parents hands while admiring the amusement park with sparks in our eyes.
Some of us then move on, knowing that no time machine has ever been really built.
Some others really want to be like Peter Pan. Unfortunately, while Peter Pan will always be young in Never Land because that’s what he wants, they- on this simple earth- grow old. So, they are not going to be so cute and innocent anymore. It’s like you’re 30 years old and still go out of the house, to your office, and flirt with some hot girls…. in a pair of green tights.
How many times should they hear from other people that they are not young anymore?
How will they realize that the bravery that they always show to the world, is only a disguise of their fear?
How will they understand that adulthood is more adventurous and fun than childhood?
Dedicated to all the patients of Peter Pan Syndrome
“…he’s too scared to step out of his little comfort zone to taste the next menus offered by life…” It’s all because living in comfort zone makes you feel sooo gooood…
